Crazy Ghost Story

This is a real ghost story shared by a small business owner lady. It's actually quite scary. You can visit her site at http://www.mohop.com

(Thanks for the wonderful story mohop!)

Ok, here's my mom's story. It's going to be pretty long, sorry! And it's chock-full of too-perfect, over-the-top, stereotypical ghost story stuff, but my mom claims it's all absolutely true...!

When my mom was in college in the early 70's, her university, in central Illinois, had just decided to allow senior-year girls to live off campus. So the summer before her senior year, my mom and three of her friends looked for someplace cheap, but with character. They found an old victorian mansion in town that was gorgeous on the outside, but completely torn up on the inside.

Their landlord said that the previous owner, a wealthy, batty old widow had lived there most of her life. It was previously owned by the well-known architect who designed it in the late 19th century. My mom and her friends were the first people to rent it after the widow had passed away.

Apparently the widow was estranged from her family. When she died, her relatives were not included in the will, and there was no mention of all the fancy jewelry that she had owned. Conviced that the old lady had hidden the jewels somewhere in the house, the relatives tore the place apart. They removed all the marble mosiacs from the fireplaces, tore off the horsehair-stuffed velvet column covers, ripped the tapestries off the walls - basically, they pretty much destroyed what should've been a national landmark. The good new was, my mom and her friends got a really unusual house to rent for super cheap!

As an interesting side note, all the furniture from the house had been auctioned off. A woman bought the dining room set, and when she removed the upholstery to refinish the chairs, she found the jewelry stash! She actually contacted the police about it, and they told her that she was the new owner! Score, huh?

Anyway, when they first moved in, things were OK. But after a few weeks, strange things started happening. All the doors would mysteriously lock. Lights would turn themselves on or off. The temperature in the house would get really super hot, then cold. The girls called the police a few times, but the cops were all, 'you girls are imagining things' or 'it's your friends playing a prank on you' or 'stop smoking weed', etc.

Things started to get spookier. While lying in bed at night, they could occassionally feel a smallish animal jump up on the end of the bed and walk toward them (anyone with pets knows that exact feeling). But when they'd turn on the light, nothing was there! Doing some research on the past owner, and found some photos of the widow... many with her best friend, a little dog!

My mom never saw it, but several of her friends saw a glowey blue floating orb, maybe about the size of a softball, floating around the stairs to the attic.

Also - I think this is the freakiest thing - when they'd go upstairs (they learned to travel through the house together, as you'd imagine), sometimes they'd hear a giant crash and tumble in the living room, and they'd go back downstairs to find the furniture re-arranged!

Personally, I don't know how they managed to stay there through this. The thing didn't seem to be very friendly... they never saw any ghosts, it seemed like a classic poltergeist. They used to try to reason with it, addressing the widow (I forgot her name) out loud and telling her that they're trying to fix the house. But to no avail.

The whole thing culminated one evening - they had always had trouble with the phone lines (of course), so one of the girls decided to go up to the corner store and call the house to see if the phone worked. My mom and the girls at the house never heard the phone ring, but the girl at the phone heard it pick up, and a creepy voice said "Get out of my house!" Of course, she ran home screaming and crying. But, nothing ever happened to them again. The thing totally went away, and my mom and her friends lived there in peace and quiet for the rest of their year long lease.

However, other people who lived there apparently didn't have the courage and fortitude of my mom and her friends. A group of college guys rented it after them, and couldn't even stay a month. Various people bought it and tried to restore it over the years - some even tried exorsicm and that sort of thing, but it didn't work. As I was growing up, we'd drive by the place every few years, just to check it out. It was always abandoned, which looked so odd because it's in a neighborhood of huge victorian houses, all of which had been restored. It really stuck out like a sore thumb, but also validates my mom's story.

The last time I went by there though, a couple years ago, it looked like someone was living there and restoring it. So maybe the thing went away, or maybe the new owner was just putting up with the craziness... Too bad TAPS wasn't around when my mom lived there!

Top Fitness Myths busted!

i found this great fitness tip from webmd. I hope this helps!

Top 9 Fitness Myths -- Busted!
Think you know the facts about getting fit? You may be surprised to learn how many are really fiction.

It's easy to fall into the trap: A workout buddy passes along an exercise tip, and then you pass it on to several folks you know. One day, you're at the gym, and sure enough, you hear the same tip repeated, so you figure it must be true. But experts say that in the world of fitness, myths and half-truths abound – and some of them may be keeping you from getting the workout you need.

"Some myths are just harmless half-truths, but many others can actually be harmful," says professional triathlete and personal coach Eric Harr, author of The Portable Personal Trainer. "They can cause frustration in working out and sometimes even lead to injury," he notes.

One reason myths get started, says Harr, is that we all react to exercise a little differently. So what's true for one person may not be true for another.

"In this sense you sometimes have to find your own 'exercise truths' – the things that are true for you," says Harr.

That said, experts say there are also some fitness myths that just need busting, and the sooner the better!

To help put you on the path to a healthier, safer, and more enjoyable workout, WebMD got the lowdown from several top experts on what's true and what's not when it comes to exercise tips.
Fitness Myth No. 1: Running on a treadmill puts less stress on your knees than running on asphalt or pavement.

"Running is a great workout, but it can impact the knees -- and since it's the force of your body weight on your joints that causes the stress, it's the same whether you're on a treadmill or on asphalt," says Todd Schlifstein, DO, a clinical instructor at New York University Medical Center's Rusk Institute.

The best way to reduce knee impact, says Schlifstein, is to vary your workout.

"If you mix running with other cardio activities, like an elliptical machine, or you ride a stationary bike, you will reduce impact on your knees so you'll be able to run for many more years," says Schlifstein.
Fitness Myth No. 2: Doing crunches or working on an "ab machine" will get rid of belly fat.

Don't believe everything you hear on those late-night infomercials! Harr says that while an ab-crunching device might "help strengthen the muscles around your midsection and improve your posture," being able to "see" your abdominal muscles has to do with your overall percentage of body fat. If you don't lose the belly fat, he says, you won't see the ab muscles.

But can doing ab crunches help you to lose that belly fat? Experts say no.

"You can’t pick and choose areas where you’d like to burn fat," says Phil Tyne, director of the fitness center at the Baylor Tom Landry Health & Wellness Center in Dallas. So crunches aren't going to target weight loss in that area.

"In order to burn fat, you should create a workout that includes both cardiovascular and strength-training elements. This will decrease your overall body fat content," including the area around your midsection, he says.
Fitness Myth No. 3: An aerobic workout will boost your metabolism for hours after you stop working out.

This statement is actually true -- but the calorie burn is probably not nearly as much as you think!

Harr says that while your metabolism will continue to burn at a slightly higher rate after you finish an aerobic workout, the amount is not statistically significant. In fact, it allows you to burn only about 20 extra calories for the day. While there's a little bit more of a metabolic boost after strength training, he says, it's still marginal.

"It doesn't really count towards your caloric burn," he says.

Fitness Myth No. 4: Swimming is a great weight loss activity.

While swimming is great for increasing lung capacity, toning muscles, and even helping to burn off excess tension, Harr says the surprising truth is that unless you are swimming for hours a day, it may not help you lose much weight.

"Because the buoyancy of the water is supporting your body, you're not working as hard as it would if, say, you were moving on your own steam -- like you do when you run," says Harr.

Further, he says, it's not uncommon to feel ravenous when you come out of the water.

"It may actually cause you to eat more than you normally would, so it can make it harder to stay with an eating plan," he says.
Fitness Myth No. 5: Yoga can help with all sorts of back pain.

The truth is that yoga can help with back pain, but it's not equally good for all types.

"If your back pain is muscle-related, then yes, the yoga stretches and some of the positions can help. It can also help build a stronger core, which for many people is the answer to lower back pain," says Schlifstein.

But if your back problems are related other problems (such as a ruptured disc) yoga is not likely to help, he says. What's more, it could actually irritate the injury and cause you more pain.

If you do have back pain, get your doctor's OK before starting any type of exercise program.
Fitness Myth No. 6: If you're not working up a sweat, you're not working hard enough.

"Sweating is not necessarily an indicator of exertion," says Tyne. "Sweating is your body’s way of cooling itself."

It's possible to burn a significant number of calories without breaking a sweat: Try taking a walk or doing some light weight training.
Fitness Myth No. 7: As long as you feel OK when you're working out, you're probably not overdoing it.

One of the biggest mistakes people tend to make when starting or returning to an exercise program is doing too much too soon. The reason we do that, says Schlifstein, is because we feel OK while we are working out.

"You don't really feel the overdoing it part until a day or two later," he says.

No matter how good you feel when you return to an activity after an absence, Schlifstein says you should never try to duplicate how much or how hard you worked in the past. Even if you don't feel it at the moment, you'll feel it in time, he says -- and it could take you back out of the game again.
Fitness Myth No. 8: Machines are a safer way to exercise because you're doing it right every time.

Although it may seem as if an exercise machine automatically puts your body in the right position and helps you do all the movements correctly, that's only true if the machine is properly adjusted for your weight and height, experts say.

"Unless you have a coach or a trainer or someone figure out what is the right setting for you, you can make just as many mistakes in form and function, and have just as high a risk of injury, on a machine as if you work out with free weights or do any other type of nonmachine workout," says Schlifstein.
Fitness Myth No. 9: When it comes to working out, you've got to feel some pain if you're going to gain any benefits.

Of all the fitness rumors ever to have surfaced, experts agree that the "no pain-no gain" holds the most potential for harm.

While you should expect to have some degree of soreness a day or two after working out, Schlifstein says, that's very different from feeling pain while you are working out.

"A fitness activity should not hurt while you are doing it, and if it does, then either you are doing it wrong, or you already have an injury," he says.

As for "working through the pain," experts don't advise it. They say that if it hurts, stop, rest, and see if the pain goes away. If it doesn't go away, or if it begins again or increases after you start to work out, Schlifstein says, see a doctor.

Court won't allow New Zealand couple name their baby son 4Real, but that's OK as they're going to call him Superman instead

Link to story

Here's the story from yahoo news..

WELLINGTON (Reuters) - A New Zealand couple is looking to call their newborn son Superman -- but only because their chosen name of 4Real has been rejected by the government registry.

Pat and Sheena Wheaton say they will get around the decision by the Registrar of Births, Deaths and Marriages by officially naming their son Superman but referring to him as 4Real, the New Zealand Herald newspaper has reported.

The Wheatons decided on the name after seeing the baby for the first time in an ultrasound scan and realising their baby was "for real".

They decided 4Real was the best way to write it, but the name was rejected because the registrar said a name had to be a sequence of characters.

Pat Wheaton said he was considering appealing against the decision through the courts, but whatever happens he won't be budged on his choice.

"No matter what its going to stay 4Real," Wheaton told the Herald, "I'm certainly not a quitter".

A spokesman for the Department of Internal Affairs, which operates the registry told the Herald discussions with the Wheatons about their son's name were continuing.

The baby is now two months old, after the Wheatons first applied to register his name in later June.

he's being sexually harassed? please...

Here's a dumbass who's sueing his boss for constantly making sexual advances towards him. Oh please, it's not like he's Brad Pitt or anything...

Link to Story

August 6, 2007 -- A man says he was unjustly fired after spurning the advances of his boss - who bared her breasts to him repeatedly, tried to touch his genitals and offered to help him quit smoking by substituting "real" kisses for cigarettes, according to a blockbuster lawsuit.

"She'd leave [her blouse] unbuttoned lower than the cleavage area," said José Carrion, 46, who has a common-law wife and two kids. "Basically, keeping herself on display."

Carrion says that his former supervisor, Rose Medina, kept propositioning him while he worked as a chief technician for Bronx River Nephro-Care, a kidney dialysis unit, from November 2006 through May.

"Although [Carrion] told Ms. Medina that her actions made him feel extremely uncomfortable, Ms. Medina refused to stop," says Carrion's lawsuit, filed at Bronx Supreme Court.

After Carrion filed a sexual-harassment complaint in April, he says Medina "became more aggressive in exposing her breasts" by lowering her neckline.

He says she tried to touch his private parts in January. Carrion recalls Medina put him in a bear hug, put her hands on his chest, placed the side of her face on his back, and proceeded to slide her hands toward his genitals.

Carrion says he grabbed Medina's hands and exclaimed, "What are you doing?" to which the supervisor replied: "It's just that you are so big," the papers say.

Opening her arms to pull away, Carrion says he told Medina he wasn't interested in anything but a professional relationship - to which she said, "Don't be silly."

And in February, Carrion says Medina told him she'd give him a "real" kiss every time he did not smoke a cigarette.

"Let's use [my kisses] as incentive," she told him, according to court papers.

Medina, who is not named as a defendant, referred questions to lawyer Cheryl Davis, who could not be reached for comment.

Carrion is seeking an unspecified amount of damages from Nephro-Care, for sex discrimination, which he says caused him to suffer humiliation, embarrassment, lost wages and benefits, as well as other injuries. A request for comment from Nephro-Care went unanswered.

In May, Carrion says he gave 30 days' notice of his resignation but was fired the following day by the medical director, who told him, "Company policy is that you get terminated for making sexual-harassment complaints," according to court papers.

"A clutch is a must-have bag for your evening attire. It can really dress up an outfit and, if you are wearing a light and flirty dress you don’t want a big and clunky bag ruining your look. Clutches are perfect. They are just enough room to hold exactly what you need for the night like your wallet, cell phone, and some lip gloss. You can’t go crazy with what you fill your bag with when you are bringing a clutch. They are also really feminine and delicate. Some come with small straps as an option for over your shoulder and others are meant just to be held in your hand or under your arm. We found a great site for all your clutch needs. AccessoryBug.com has a whole page dedicated to evening bags and they have some really cute clutches for really affordable prices which makes it even better."
